New MRT Vehicles

The long traditional connection with Land Rover is in the process of being severed. Toyota HiLux 4x4 vehicles are going to replace them - largely an economic decision.
I suppose it's a case of, "Don't knock it until you've tried it".
Time and experience will tell !

Damn these economies! How can they cut ou the good old fashioned Landies? They are more rugged than the Toyota's, something you really want in a mountain vehicle.

I have driven Toyotas in their various forms for twenty years in the middle east and they always performed excellently. I recall one occassion of driving one up a very steep goat/camel track for seven hundred metres, going from the Red Sea coastal plains to The Asir Escarpement in Saudi Arabia and it did it without any problem. It was a bit hair raising though

The Toyotas are great on the road and on tracks until you try to turn them on a narrow mountain track - then you find out that the long overhangs and low ground clearance front and rear will mean lots of damage reports to the MTO!! It will also be difficult to blame sheep/deer/ice etc!)

suppose its cheaper by far,...maybe time to realise that maybe you have become an expensive luxury troops...feel sorry that the accounting dickheads have obviously got their eyes on you..a lightweight toyota on high scottish winter roads????? oh dear.
Still, as long as theres money to fund Iraq............

Hi Guys, Well that descision caused quite a commotion within the civilian MRTs.

Do the new RAFMRS vehicles carry a stretcher in the back, or do you just call in the helicopters for casevac's ?

Are they better than Landies, I note your old ones are up for sale for about £9K.

Regards
